物心ついたかつかぬかの頃、この音楽に完全に憑りつかれていました。アメリカのＴＶ映画「ザ・アンタッチャブル」のオープニングテーマです。放映時期を調べると僕は４－９歳だったのでベンチャーズより先です。たぶん初めて諳（そら）んじた西洋音楽だったと思います。I have been absolutely obsessed with this music  ever since I could remember. It is the opening theme of US  film ‘The Untouchables’ which has been televised in Japan while I was between 4 and 9 years old.  It is presumably the first western music which I memorized note by note.

いや、今聴いても血が騒ぎます。作曲はネルソン・リドル。舞台は１９３０年代のシカゴで、アル・カポネ率いるギャング団とエリオット・ネスらの血みどろの抗争のドラマです。たぶんこれと戦争映画コンバットで物心ついた影響でしょう、ゴッド・ファーザーも好きだし日本のヤクザ映画も大好きです。音楽ですが上と下でだいぶオーケストレーションが違います。上の方が音がいいのでのせましたが、僕が覚えたのは 下の方でした。この悪党顔の面々をご覧ください。面構えにいかにこの音楽がマッチしているか！This music, written by  Nelson Riddle, still gets me excited even now. This story of battle between Al Capone’s mafia and Eliot Ness’s  special agent team,  as well as a war movie Combat, might have built my taste for gang movies such as The Godfather or Yakuzas. Interestingly the same music is differently scored from above to below. I chose above only for its better sound quality but what I remembered then is below. Look at these villainous faces and listen how this music matches them!

主部のバックで半音ずつ不気味に上下する不協和音、ホルンの合いの手、 中間部（サビ）のコード進行（特に３度目に半音下がるところ）がたまらなく大好きで小学校の登下校時はいつも歩きながらこれを歌っていました。すぐ終わってしまうので何十回も。          I had a special affection for dissonances caused by haunted accompanyment sliding on chromatic scale, catchy horn bridges and the striking chord progression at the middle section.  Everyday I walked to my elementary school and back with loudly singing this tune hundred times as each is too short.

こういう変な子供もあまりいなかったろうと思いきや、you tubeでこんなものを見つけ狂喜いたしました。I have thought for ages that I was a quite unusual kid but the video below I found in you-tube gave me a great joy.

オルガンでこれを弾いてしまっているこのおじさん、彼も若い頃この曲を歌って歩いていたに違いない！これのピアノ譜、是非入手しておじさんと連弾したいものです。それにしてもオルガンの音色まで必死にいじったりして涙ぐましい没入ぶり。気持ちわかります。ネットというものはこういう超マニアックな人と人のつながりを生み出す可能性があることが学べました。This old man, playing it with the organ, might have sung this tune while walking in his youth like me!  I wish to play its four handed piano score with him. His affection to this score is unmistakable if one sees not only his motive to record and show his playing publicly but also his devotion to control  subtle tone colors. I recognized a great potential of internet which may connect people worldwide even with such a maniac linkage.

アー世の中俺だけじゃなかった・・・ちょっと安心です。 I was not alone. It was a console for me.
